Q: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
A: If you have a pre set of requirements, eg i want it built using Wordpress, or in ASP, then make sure before you go too far into the briefing stages, you ask those questions, otherwise you are just wasting your/their time. Also, always check out their portfolio and make sure you feel happy with their design work. Ask for testimonials and check out their twitter, you can get a flavour of that company quite well that way.
Q: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
A: Make sure its user friendly, that users can find what they need easily, don't make them think, clear call to actions... at the end of the day you want your visitors to 'do something'. Finally, keep adding content to your website - it helps with SEO and it gives a reason for users to keep coming back, where you are then able to promote new services/products, etc.
