Q: What's your name and position in the company?
A: James Creative director
Q: Describe your company in 5 words.
A: Fun, forward thinking, friendly, effective
Q: What's your business philosophy?
A: To provide a flexible and approachable service to companies whether they are a startup or a multi national. Either way we taylor our areas of expertise to provide the best possible solutions for our clients.
Q: Describe your office environment.
A: We have a very informal environment where we spend a lot of time finding ways to make our clients stand out from the competition. We have a relaxed environment but are always 110% client focussed. Our studio's goal is to be as productive as possible but in a relaxed way.
Q: Describe how your team interact and work together.
A: Our team are great! We each have areas of expertise, for example, Ant comes from an environment of art direction for a large central London ad agency, he specialised in corporate branding and art direction. Jane is our technical genius previously working for a London company who specialised in writing code for mobile phone company. She created apps & wrote mind boggling code for web sites! We have three other guys here who each specialise in their own fields.
Q: What makes you different from other web design companies?
A: With our collection of diverse experts and a team that really gets on well we are able to provide a unique and creative approach to technical and creative problems.
Q: How do you get the majority of your business?
A: We get a lot of business from word of mouth. It's a really effective method for us, so good old fashioned social networking sites! Well, what did you expect! :-) We also get a lot of work from people literally telling others about us.
Q: Describe how you manage projects from the initial client contact to completion and handover.
A: OK initially we often start by chatting on the phone or Skype, from there we establish what the clients primary needs are. We will then start to thrash out the most effective way of bringing that to them in the way that suits them best. We'll then start providing updates of how things are going and, in a very organic way, will gradually work towards the conclusion that best suits our client.
Q: What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
A: Keeping our clients informed as to what's happening, by listening properly to their needs and by trying to find THE best way to make them stand out from the crowds.
Q: How do you manage demanding clients?
A: Well we try to establish what the clients real needs are early on and that way there aren't unpleasant surprises for the client or us. We feel clients should be demanding and want the best solution for their business, after all it's probably as important to them as our business is to us. We always keep that in mind.
Ultimately it's ensuring that we get to the crux of what they really need.
Q: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
A: Well I'd recommend they try to look at their business and see what their needs are and if they aren't sure, to ask. From there I'd look for companies that have a good level of expertise in client satisfaction (if they don't know, get them to ask their prospective web company for references) It's always helpful to know what other clients have thought of the services that have been provided to them.
Q: Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
A: I'd like to see us with more offices in other countries so we can try to make the internet an even more fun place to be!
Q: Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
A: Hmm, well it's lovely to dream, maybe we'll all be plugging our brains directly into the web and uploading our thoughts bypassing web developers altogether! :-)
I hope that the web is a more accessible place. I really feel that what we are seeing now is just the start and that the web industry will go from strength to strength.
Q: What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
A: Both PC and Mac
Q: How was your company name chosen?
A: We're Flying Mouse. We like the analogy of making businesses fly as this is our primary goal. The mouse is pretty self explanatory.
Q: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
A: Personally I think it's really important to be distinctive and to stand out from others. Don't look the same as all the rest, as one tech company once said, think different!
