Q: What's your name and position in the company?
A: Chris Monkman - Web designer
Q: Describe your company in 5 words.
A: Bespoke responsive websites that work
Q: What's your business philosophy?
A: Build a stable and secure website with the customer at the heart of it. We strive to provide a bespoke website experience, that means we don't use off the shelve packages or templates and we don't forget the clients once the site has been created.
Q: Describe your office environment.
A: We're part of a larger company but function independently with our own roomy office and meeting room. This means we can get on with making websites without worrying about space or noise as well as allowing us the stability of being part of a larger established firm.
Q: Describe how your team interact and work together.
A: Very closely. While we may not work on the same project at the same time, we often co-operate with each other offering our own insight to make our work better overall. After all, there's little point in everyone having exactly the same ideas so it's good to have multiple viewpoints.
Q: What makes you different from other web design companies?
A: We don't use off-the-shelf templates and layouts, so each site we make is a bespoke product. We also constantly monitor and maintain our own dedicated servers, no shared hosting or systems left with known vulnerabilities.
Q: How do you get the majority of your business?
A: We get alot of business through references. Our customers let others know and word spreads. We also have a large number of repeat customers who come back with new ideas, sites and improvements to their sites.
Q: Describe how you manage projects from the initial client contact to completion and handover.
A: From the start we like to keep in contact with clients, we'll discuss needs, requirements and must haves before providing a quote. Once the quote is accepted, designs will be created and agreed upon based on feedback before development commences.
Once we have an agreed design, the site is built from the ground up and once at a usable state we will talk clients through the work so far and add in changes based on feed back before handing over for final testing and handover.
Q: What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
A: Communication. If you don't talk to your clients, you don't know what need. Without a firm understanding of a clients requirements there will always be issues.
Q: How do you manage demanding clients?
A: We talk with them and work with them to ensure problems are resolved. If there's a lack of understanding or other problems then we make the effort to make sure we can resolve those issues and satisfy even the most demanding of customers.
Q: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
A: Have a list of priorities, is security a key factor? How reliable is their hosting? How easy are they contact? How stable is the company as a whole? Finally are they asking too little or too much, remember you get what you pay for.
Q: Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
A: Still looking after local customers, but with further capacity to handle larger jobs.
Q: Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
A: There's going to be a crunch soon between the template designers and the programmers, which I err towards programmers winning out long term. Mainly because of security issues over programming languages that have made templates so easy to use but also very vulnerable to attack if the languages are not well understood by those using them.
Q: What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
A: PC
Q: How was your company name chosen?
A: Well do design and it's pretty much all electronic. E-Dzine, simples.
Q: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
A: Try not to get everything at once. Things change, technology improves and companies grow. So start with the basics and work with your chosen design company to improve and build on your website as you grow.
