Q: What's your name and position in the company?
A: Katie Keith, Director and Client Manager
Q: Describe your company in 5 words.
A: Expert WordPress development and customization
Q: What's your business philosophy?
A: We aim to be the UK's leading WordPress experts, providing WordPress development services to clients across the UK. We’re used to working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and always strive to keep things as clear and open as possible.
Our philosophy:
- Clear, practical, jargon-free approach
- Standards-compliant websites built to modern web standards (see our quality statement at http://barn2.co.uk/about/quality-commitment)
- Designed for accessibity and usability
Q: Describe your office environment.
A: Our office at Dunstone Farm lies within Dartmoor National Park, about 10 miles from Plymouth and a stone’s throw from the popular beauty spot at Cadover Bridge. We use this stunning backdrop as inspiration for our web design. We’re passionate about creating WordPress websites that use the latest technology, are beautiful to look at and a pleasure to use.
Q: Describe how your team interact and work together.
A: We’re a small and select team who are committed to providing the absolute best service to our clients.
We recognise that clients often need specialist help from those with the right creative skills and experience. We work closely with a small and carefully selected group of companies who are in tune with our approach.
Q: What makes you different from other web design companies?
A: We're one of the only UK companies specialising in WordPress development. We know WordPress inside out and can customise it to meet our clients' requirements.
As one of the world's leading content management systems, WordPress allows clients to update their website themselves. There are over 15,000 WordPress plugins available, so we can create websites that are as simple - or as complex - as our clients require.
Q: How do you get the majority of your business?
A: We receive a lot of word of mouth referrals from people who have recommended us. We also do Google AdWords to promote our WordPress development services. We're often contacted by clients who have struggled to find an expert WordPress developer. Sometimes we do things in WordPress that other developers have told the client is impossible!
Q: Describe how you manage projects from the initial client contact to completion and handover.
A: We have a tried and tested WordPress development process, which is outlined at http://barn2.co.uk/about/our-process.
Q: What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
A: Communicating on the client's level is really important. I always try to gauge the client's level of knowledge about computers and the internet and make sure I don't confuse them with jargon or terminology they don't understand.
Q: How do you manage demanding clients?
A: Some clients want more input into their website than others, but this doesn't necessarily make them demanding! We welcome any input from clients, but we're also happy to get on with the work and make the decisions on their behalf if they don't want to be very involved. Our terms of business help to clarify the expectations on both sides and prevent any misunderstandings.
Q: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
A: Get a feel of the company during the initial discussions. Do they speak on your level, or do they confuse you with jargon? Do they understand your requirements and what you're trying to achieve?
The company should provide you with a full written proposal or estimate before you agree to the work. This should include clear terms of business and clearly outline exactly what is included in the price.
Q: Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
A: In 10 years, we aim to be the UK's leading WordPress development agency. As well as providing WordPress customisation and complete websites to clients, we will be releasing WordPress plugins and other services to a wider market.
Q: Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
A: The issue everyone's talking about at the moment is responsive design and mobile compatibility. In the medium term, more and more websites will focus on ensuring a great user experience for devices of all types and screen sizes.
Where do I see the web design industry in the longer-term? Who knows?!
Q: What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
A: PC
Q: How was your company name chosen?
A: Our office is based on Dartmoor, in Barn 2 of a complex of converted barns - hence the name Barn2 Media!
Q: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
A: There's no point in having a website if no one can find it! Effective online marketing is a vital part of having a successful website.
