Q: What's your name and position in the company?
A: Kurt D Lynn - President
Q: Describe your company in 5 words.
A: Business growth focused website developer
Q: What's your business philosophy?
A: Every business needs to take their place on the web. Most small businesses have no idea where to start. Our ideology is to help our business clients make intelligent choices about what and how they do things on the Internet. The goal isn't to just have a website. The goal is to have a web strategy that will help a business grow.
Q: Describe your office environment.
A: Low overhead and highly virtual. Our designers are in Montreal, our developers in Toronto and Europe, our marketers and support are local in Northumberland County. This is what the web is all about -- reaching and collaborating beyond our physical boundaries.
Q: Describe how your team interact and work together.
A: We are all veteran internet specialists -- from marketing through design through development. We have worked with each other on large projects for a long time. We always lay out a plan in advance for each site and we use a variety of online collaboration tools to make sure that we are coordinated in what we do.
Q: What makes you different from other web design companies?
A: The key things that differentiate us are as follows: (1) We're focused entirely on web work; not a designer trying to provide a web offering, not a repair depot trying to make a web offering, only web work; (2) We are focused entirely on small, rurally located businesses - Northumberland, Hasting, and Prince Edward counties are our markets. and (3) Not least, is that we are true internet experts. Each of us have been in the internet marketing industry for a 5-20 years, and (4) we are committed to providing a real value not just to create a site but to ensure that it is properly managed day in, day out.
We also believe in community service (which is why we offer free sites to community service organizations.
Q: How do you get the majority of your business?
A: Word of mouth. Organic search. Some on-ground marketing.
Q: Describe how you manage projects from the initial client contact to completion and handover.
A: 20 words doesn't cut it. It can be explained in detail on our website by visiting klynnwebsiteconsulting.com/how_long_does_it_take_to_make_a_website.
Q: What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
A: (1) Minimizing the difference between what the client expects and what they get.
(2) Focusing on the lifetime value of a client rather than the sale at hand.
Q: How do you manage demanding clients?
A: :-) Carefully (see above)
(1) Minimizing the difference between what the client expects and what they get.
(2) Focusing on the lifetime value of a client rather than the sale at hand.
Q: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
A: 100 words won't do it either. The difficulty is sorting out those suppliers that know a little about web technology vs. those than know enough. We offer an extensive list of suggested criteria at klynnwebsiteconsulting/choosing_your_website_supplier.
Q: Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
A: :-) Well, if we want to be around in 10 years, the best bet is to focus on doing the best we can today. If we do that, our position in 10 years will take care of itself.
Q: Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
A: LOL. Technology is technology and very few of us have a good idea of where it will be or what it will look like in the future. The key issues for small business however is that people will become more strategic about their internet presence rather than tactical -- i.e. how will a website or design help grow my business instead of thinking of a website as a form of electronic brochure.
That being said, there are a number of popular "red herrings". Social marketing is one of them. The current form of mobile apps is another.
Q: What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
A: Both PC and Mac
Q: How was your company name chosen?
A: Simple. My first initial and last name added to what we do.
Q: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
A: The tip: Try to view the web as the nexus for your customer-facing activities. Don't think in terms of just a website. Look at it from the perspective of understanding how the web can facilitate the marketing, advertising, selling, logistics, servicing, administration, and positioning of your company -- how can you use your internet or web presence to enhance and engage your prospects and clients more fully.
