Interview

WWDC: Describe your company in 5 words.
Enso Blue: zen creative unique friendly simple

WWDC: Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
Enso Blue: I can't look that far into the future, but I can say that Enso Blue will grow and continue to evolve. We have a direction we want to and are taking our company that we feel is positive and supportive of our clients.

WWDC: How was your company name chosen?
Enso Blue: We came up with the idea to form a business that was run our way and in our spirit; we decided that our philosophy was very much like the zen Enso figure that is often depicted as a circle, sometimes closed, sometimes not. Each Enso has a meaning, a purpose, and as one paints an Enso it is often an expression of the moment, a symbol of enlightenment, strength, elegance, and Universal. To us, Enso Blue made sense and it just describes us as who we are.

Jacquie is a self taught artist and web specialist. She started her career 10 years ago and since then has formed a strong passion for art, illustration, web design, and development.

Jay Ullman

Jay Ullman

Co-Owner/Writer/Editor
Jay is Enso Blue’s lead content writer and copy editor and its web “jack-of-all-trades.” His strongest skill is his command of the written language, and his love for writing has been evident in the work he produced in school, as a hobby, and as part of his various corporate jobs. He has written and edited business and technical requirement documents, SOPs, policy documents, internal communications, copy for websites and print materials, as well as articles for company publications.

WWDC: What's your name and position in the company?
Enso Blue: Jacquie Childers and I'm the lead designer, creative guru, and responsible for development.

WWDC: Describe your company in 5 words.
Enso Blue: zen creative unique friendly simple

WWDC: What's your business philosophy?
Enso Blue: We want to work with our clients, not for them. We want to develop relationships based on mutual trust and respect. We seek to understand our clients and their needs so that we can create simple, artistic, and powerful designs that will serve our clients for years to come. We won’t leave our clients to fend for themselves once the project is complete, but will always be there to help guide them and support their future needs.

WWDC: Describe your office environment.
Enso Blue: We just launched our business in December 2010 and with limited funds we are in a home office setting, but have plans to move into office space in the near future.

WWDC: Describe how your team interact and work together.
Enso Blue: My team, army of two, works well together and focuses on our skills and what we can bring to the table. While I am on the design and development side, my partner and co-owner of Enso Blue is on the writing and content development side, this creates harmony and works well for our clients.

WWDC: What makes you different from other web design companies?
Enso Blue: I think there are a so many design companies out there that to be honest, every one of them probably say things like "we are a little company with big ideas." Sure, we are a little company and yeah we have ideas, some of them huge, but that isn't what makes us different. We are friendly, laid back and well to be honest, we just want to design and work with our clients.

WWDC: How do you get the majority of your business?
Enso Blue: Our business is brand new and shiny, but we get a lot of business from our past clients and networking.

WWDC: Describe how you manage projects from the initial client contact to completion and handover.
Enso Blue: We have a phased process that allows for comments and revisions before sign off.

WWDC: What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
Enso Blue: I think listening and taking your client's needs, thoughts, and ideas seriously. So much of what I do is about listening and then using that information to guide my client into a positive direction.

WWDC: How do you manage demanding clients?
Enso Blue: First rule, listen, even if you are frustrated with the commentary. As a designer you have to be ready to stand by your views, but also be understanding of your client's needs, views, thoughts, and ideas as well.

WWDC: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
Enso Blue: I would say, call them up, get these people on the phone and talk to them one on one or meet up with them to make sure they are a right fit.

WWDC: Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
Enso Blue: I can't look that far into the future, but I can say that Enso Blue will grow and continue to evolve. We have a direction we want to and are taking our company that we feel is positive and supportive of our clients.

WWDC: Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
Enso Blue: I think the web is changing more and more each year and moving away from the static websites of the past. We are moving into mobile, something on the go, something small, simple, and dynamic.

WWDC: What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
Enso Blue: Both PC and Mac

WWDC: How was your company name chosen?
Enso Blue: We came up with the idea to form a business that was run our way and in our spirit; we decided that our philosophy was very much like the zen Enso figure that is often depicted as a circle, sometimes closed, sometimes not. Each Enso has a meaning, a purpose, and as one paints an Enso it is often an expression of the moment, a symbol of enlightenment, strength, elegance, and Universal. To us, Enso Blue made sense and it just describes us as who we are.

WWDC: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
Enso Blue: Do not settle and throw something up on the web. Take a step back and think about your needs BEFORE you dive into your project. Most of the time people who rush tend to miss important details and often times those websites fall out of date and can hurt your business. Get the most from your website by taking the time to plan and focus on your needs, rather than just your wants.
