Marketing Success with Web Legal Documents

22 October 2010
The legal contracts, forms, and other documents on your websites are in fact a tool to help you gain marketing success. How does this happen, you may ask. Read on to find out.

Most website owners are not aware of how they can use legal compliance to market their website. They know that there is a need for them to conduct legal exposure since there is an FTC guideline on this. But they do not know that these documents can either positively or negatively position their website to potential buyers and even future business partners.

We can say that there are two types of websites. It is very easy to determine which sites fall into what categories since the difference is very easy to spot.

The first kind has those websites that are serious. These are the ones who have webmasters that aim to treat them as serious e-commerce sites. They work on the design and the operation of the website. They do the necessary SEO work; they work on the navigation, and they conduct marketing work. These sites aim to last for a long time and they have the commitment to do so.

Then there are the hobby websites. These are sites that have webmasters who only see them as a hobby. They might be e-commerce websites that are there to try and make money but the site master either does not have the time to do the necessary work or they just simply do not want to.

No matter which category your site falls into, there is a need for it to comply with the legal requirements. They should be constantly updated to manage the legal exposure that they need.

The ones who run serious websites are more strategic with managing their legal compliance. They know how to use it to give a favourable position to their buyers and future partners.

Customers these days are more concerned with how websites manage their legal requirements. They are concerned with privacy and where the information collected from them will go. They are aware of the possible threats in the online world.

There are legal forms that you should post on the website such as the FTC Guides Disclosure Policy, terms of use, and privacy policy. Having these will tell your visitors that you are a serious site and that you are in this business for the long run.
