How to Build Links with Purpose
5 January 2011
You will read a lot on the internet that content is king. I couldn’t agree more as without great content you can forget about getting any links. This simple guide will help you get better at obtaining those all important links.
The first rule that I always work to is, if a link is difficult to get hold of then you should do your best to get it. I say this because if you are finding it difficult to obtain then your competition probably is to.
When creating your link worthy content it is best to have a few link targets in mind. There is no point in creating conetnt blind. What I mean by this is don’t create content for creating content sake. Always ensure the content you are creating is relevant to somebody. If you can get one quality link from some great content then it will be worth it.
The second rule I always work to after identifying my link targets is to do my research. This is probably the best tip that can be given. Doing your research is vital as, in order to gain a link you need to produce fantastic content. The only way you can produce such content is by doing your research properly.
By now you should have chosen your link targets, done your research and hopefully produced some fantastic content. This leads us onto rule three. Make sure you tell your link targets about your content. As you have produced the content with them in mind there is no shame in asking them to link to it. Most people are open to linking if the content is worth it.
The fourth rule is be honest about your intentions. If you have created great content then don’t disguise your intentions. As stated above if your work is great then shout about it from the roof tops. Get on Social Media sites and blast it out to the world.
To recap the rules you should work to, to obtain fantastic links are:
Source some link targets first
Do your research properly
Produce excellent content
Contact the link sources (honestly) and tell them about your content
Ask them for a link
Tell the rest of the world via social media about your content
By following these simple steps you are not only making the internet a better place by producing great content but you will also build some awesome links along the way.
