WWDC: What's your name and position in the company?
Sam Beckham Design: Sam Beckham - Owner, Founder

WWDC: Describe your company in 5 words.
Sam Beckham Design: Dynamic, Interactive, Innovative, Professional, Reliable

WWDC: Describe your office environment.
Sam Beckham Design: I work from home to reduce overheads and keep my costs down. But I suppose organized chaos describes it the best.

WWDC: What makes you different from other web design companies?
Sam Beckham Design: Being a freelance and not a company you will only ever have to deal with one person. The same person that is designing and making the website so there's no middle-man when it comes to formulating ideas or getting the little niggles ironed out. I also aim to add a unique interactive element to all my website designs to help the site stand out from the crowd.

WWDC: How do you get the majority of your business?
Sam Beckham Design: Networking. I do run advertising campaigns with Yell that advertise for me on various different platforms (facebook, google, etc) but I find nothing beats talking to people directly and establishing a good business relationship.

WWDC: Describe how you manage projects from the initial client contact to completion and handover.
Sam Beckham Design: When the client contacts me I get them to outline the basics of what they want the website to do for them. I then work closely with them to develop some initial ideas before going away and pulling together a quote. Once this is accepted I move onto designing wireframes and concepts, then an initial page design, the resulting pages, the HTML/CSS files, the interactive elements and then finally I integrate it with the CMS before testing it extensively. I talk with the client on every step of this process to ensure they get exactly what they want.

WWDC: What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
Sam Beckham Design: Understanding. If I can understand what the client wants and the client can understand what I will deliver then trust will follow and a good relationship can be established.

WWDC: How do you manage demanding clients?
Sam Beckham Design: I make sure I outline every step of the process from the inset so the client knows what to expect. If they decide I'm not working fast enough for them I refer to the dates set on the initial agreement and ask that they be patient and trust that I will deliver in time.

WWDC: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
Sam Beckham Design: Talk to the companies about your ideas and see who is the most enthusiastic about working with you to help create it. If a company is enthusiastic about your project they are more likely to produce great results.

WWDC: Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
Sam Beckham Design: In 10 I will hopefully have expanded my skill range as well of developed on my existing skills to provide better service and quality for my customers.

WWDC: Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
Sam Beckham Design: I think the web design industry will have to evolve in the future because the web itself is going to evolve. The past 10 years has seen a dramatic change in the internet and what you can do with it so it stands to reason that the next 10 years will produce an even better internet experience.

WWDC: What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
Sam Beckham Design: Both PC and Mac

WWDC: How was your company name chosen?
Sam Beckham Design: My mother wanted to call me Sam and my Fathers surname was Beckham. I added the design part so people knew what I did.

WWDC: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
Sam Beckham Design: Update your content regularly. No one like to see stale websites, you have to keep them alive.
