Penny Howes Editorial Services specialises in writing, revising, editing and abstracting scientific and medical work. The website neeeded to reflect that level of professionalism while retaining an accessible, clear and easily navigated style. Horizontal and vertical menus with a monochormatic colour scheme helped achieve this objective, along with a little subtle flash animation in the custom header area. These simple aspects help this site be more memorable, and W3C compliant coding means web standards were built in to the site from the very beginning.

Reviews
I can’t recommend Photon Web Design highly enough. My updated website was prepared in no time and none of the detailed changes I wanted was too much trouble. My emails were responded to by return and the whole thing was up and running in just a few days.
My original website was looking rather dated and Chris has brought it well into the 21st Century. I think he initially understood my needs better than I did, and had some excellent innovative ideas for redesigning it. It now looks superb, the information is rationalised better into separate pages that are easy to navigate, and it has links to additional important websites giving information that is relevant to my business.
Photon Web Design is clearly a highly professional organisation and I shall be recommending it to all my business associates, colleagues and friends.
We are amazed how quickly our new-look website came together and especially like our revamped logo. All the technical details were taken care of quickly and efficiently.
Our new site also had enhanced visitor numbers following improved Site Engine Optimisation and we were soon on our way to more online sales!
Uploading our photos on the Joomla system is such an improvement and we love the zoom feature, it looks so professional.
All in all, we are thrilled with the result.
Our company, Room-b Serviced Apartments, approached Photon Web Design in May 2008 with the brief of creating a website to display our continually growing portfolio of UK business accommodation.
Photon assigned us the web designer Chris Stapleton who came to our offices in Cheltenham for the initial free consultation. From the outset we were very pleased with the way in which Chris explained our options for the website. He broke down the different elements of our website such as search engine optimisation, content management, and front end usability for our clients, into understandable portions that were not only jargon free but easy enough for us to work on when after Chris left the office. Importantly for us, Chris also discussed with us the level of technical ability we had at Room-b and took this into account with the proposed site.
Once Room-b and Photon had agreed go ahead with the project, work on the website started very quickly. Chris called or and mailed during the whole process and kept us up-to-date on how things were going and what work we need to do to keep everything on schedule. We felt very reassured and commend Photon for this particular aspect of the build as the problem of slipping schedules and poor communication was a concern we had discussed before luckily finding Photon to manage our web development.
The website was finished in three weeks and went live in four, which was even better than our original plan. Further to this, Chris was on hand to help us get to grips with the content management system, and even came to do a half day training course with our staff which was really helpful! Additionally, Photon have created a monthly management package including SEO, trouble shooting and general help with any issues that arise which we have found to be far more competitive than any other web company in our area.
Overall, we cannot praise Chris and Photon enough and would recommend them to other small to medium sized business’ that are looking for an honest, effective and contemporary web design company. Thanks Photon!!
Photon Web Design comments:
Thanks, a pleasure to deal with as usual and a great continuing working relationship. I'd recommend Jenna, Phil and the staff at Room-b serviced aparments to anyone looking for attention to detail and fastidious customer care when choosing a serviced apartment agent.
I must say that the design work is exactly how I wanted and that the designer has been able to translate my thoughts in to the site as promised. They are very straight forward and was very easy to work with them. I work from Kathmandu , Nepal. I should also say that even though we were halfway across the world , there was easy communication and the work went ahead without a glitch. I would as a business owner, recomend this company to anyone wanting a trouble free, and a nice website. Thank you for doing mine. I am very happy with what you have done for me.

What makes you different from other web design companies?
Photon Web Design:
”Geekery meets commnuication skills - I'd like to think clients are supported and trust me to take care of (and protect them from if necessary!) appropriate background technical aspects.”
WWDC:
How do you get the majority of your business?

WWDC:
What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
Photon Web Design:
”Communication, communication, communication.........and communication. At every stage, clear, frequent and patient communication is necessary - especially if there are questions and queries which are causing concern for the client. I want my clients to feel they can approach me with the most trivial changes to graphics or logos right up to concerns regarding contracts and hosting, for example.”
WWDC:
How do you manage demanding clients?
Photon Web Design:
”All clients have the right to be demanding. If a client is unhappy about any aspect of the design process, it needs to be rectified. With clear and frequent discussion, most problems can be sorted out quickly. To back this up, changes to website design are rectified with speed and returned to the client for agreement or further review.”
WWDC:
If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
Photon Web Design:
”Well of course partly based on cost, but not only this. Most companies have an idea of their budget from the start, and although a quick google search can be enough to get a rough idea of the market, most small to medium-sized businesses don't need a deisgn agency with graphic design departments, branding experts and resident marketing expert. Most small to medium sized businesses require a fast, high value service, that comes within budget with no hidden extras, and great human contact and support.”
WWDC:
Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
Photon Web Design:
”Moving to maintain a well-known and trusted reputation for quality, accessible and modern websites that mean clients contrinue to actively recommend us to others for further work.”
WWDC:
Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
Photon Web Design:
”Expanding into mixed media as broadband speeds increase. Video and real world integration will become 'the next big thing' and the need for even the smallest business to have a web presence will be even more of a requirement than it is now.”
WWDC:
What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?

”PC”

WWDC:
If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
Photon Web Design:
”Content is king. Always was, always will be. Google needs original content to help it index the site, but more importantly users need relevant content displayed clearly so they think of the website as useful. Write original, creative and relevant content, and people will return. ”
