CMS Used:
Own Brand
We use a system that we customise to our client's specific needs. It is very simple to use and requires no special software. All editing is done using a normal browser. As the design and styles are controlled separately by us, all the client has to worry about is inputting text in clearly labeled boxes in the system. They cannot "break" the layout or design. As we customise the CMS to every project, there are never any features in the way that might confuse a client or cause potential problems - we like to keep it very simple and very usable but at the same time the system has tremendous power. Updates can be viewed instantly and special input forms designed for any number of things from being able to change a simple title or block of text to more complicated things like updating an events list with dates, titles, descriptions and images that will then be automatically sorted into date order on the website. Anything is possible.

We approached Tigerchick to design a website for Charm School after seeing examples of their excellent work online. We have found Michael and Jenny very easy to work with, always friendly, accommodating, prompt and creative.

Images are important to our website and Michael found a cost effective way to source pictures that were relevant to our service without the need to set up a large scale photography shoot which would have been out of our budget.

We’re really pleased with the way www.charm-school.co.uk has turned out and as such have asked the team to create another website for a different arm of our business.

I’m delighted with the website that Tigerchick have built for me. The design is beautifully laid out, the content easily to navigate and I find the management system a pleasure to use. The content on this site must have been a challenge, with a combination of photography projects, articles and a blog. And yet the resulting site pulls together into a wonderfully unified showcase for my work. Michael and Jenny are great to work with and I couldn’t recommend them higher.

I’m chuffed to bits with the new branding and website that Michael and Jenny have created for me. They understood exactly the kind of look that I was aiming for, and met my requirements with the maximum of creativity and the minimum of fuss. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Tigerchick redesigned my self catering cottage website and I found it revolutionised my business! I get more enquiries and a higher conversion rate of enquiries to firm bookings than I ever did before. They set about the task in a very knowledgable and professional manner, photographing the cottages and their surroundings, designing the site and revamping the location page with the latest available technology. I was consulted at every stage and felt involved in the whole process. SEO had previously been a problem and this was addressed and greatly improved as their knowledge allowed the new site to be designed to maximise this. I can thoroughly recommend Tigerchick as they are young, enthusiastic and highly efficient and effective at what they do.

I am delighted with the new website for my holiday cottage business, designed by Tigerchick.
I'd had my previous website since 2001, so was definitely in need of major updating. When I met Michael and Jenny of Tigerchick last June, I was very impressed with their professional, yet friendly manner when we discussed my ideas for the new site.
They took time arranging the photos and as I watched, it was obvious a lot of thought was going into the setting up of each shot.
They came back to see me very quickly with the photos and text, which we discussed in infinite detail! Throughout the whole process I never felt harrassed or worried about changing my mind!
Michael and Jenny always acted immediately when I requested changes to text or photos, they were always on the end of the phone and replied quickly to emails.
As I have had many enthusiastic comments about the site I can only assume that my increased enquiries and subsequent bookings are directly attributed to the new website!

WWDC: What's your name and position in the company?
Tigerchick: Michael Rummey, Partner

WWDC: Describe your company in 5 words.
Tigerchick: hard-working, creative, approachable, innovative, effective

WWDC: What's your business philosophy?
Tigerchick: We are proud to be a tiny company – it allows us to be very involved and personable about each and every project. We know that every business is different and so every website we design is an individual and bespoke response to the client, their business and their brief.

WWDC: Describe your office environment.
Tigerchick: We are based in the rural heart of Midlothian. Out of the window we can see acres of woodland, fields and the odd deer. As we work outside of a “normal office environment” in the town we able to keep our ideas nice and fresh – like us!

WWDC: What makes you different from other web design companies?
Tigerchick: The fact that we also offer very high quality photography is something that our clients really appreciate. It means that we are essentially a one-stop-shop which makes it very easy and quick for clients to get the results they want efficiently without having lots of third-parties involved. We also never use templates as quick design fixes like some companies. Everything we do has been really thought about and designed with care!

WWDC: How do you get the majority of your business?
Tigerchick: Most of business comes the best way possible – through word of mouth!

WWDC: What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
Tigerchick: We think it’s so important to actually meet a person face to face and have a good chat. This way we quickly get a much better understanding of exactly what a client wants from their new site and what we can do for them. Often we find that a client isn’t quite sure what they want or what’s possible and meeting them gives us the chance to help by suggesting ideas. The initial meeting will usually turn into a great brain-storming and ideas session which we don’t charge for at all but helps the client get really excited about all the possibilities.

WWDC: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
Tigerchick: Look at their previous work and portfolio and decide if you like the style they use. Are their designs clear and easy to use? Do they inspire you? Finally it is really important that you meet the people who will actually be your point of contact within a company – and vital that you can work with them as a team.

WWDC: Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
Tigerchick: There’s been a move in recent years to outsource web work abroad where it’s often much cheaper. However I think that most people far prefer to work with local people that they can actually meet and develop a working relationship with. Certainly the end product is usually far better when it’s the result of real people collaborating so I anticipate a reversal of the outsourcing trend. The rise of social-media is proof that people love to communicate and the new technologies that it produces everyday are becoming more centred on enabling interactions at a local level as well as world-wide.

WWDC: What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
Tigerchick: Both PC and Mac

WWDC: How was your company name chosen?
Tigerchick: Late night / red wine and nick-names! Also.. a Tigerchick is a magical chimera capable of almost anything…

WWDC: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
Tigerchick: One indispensable tip that you can’t go wrong with… commission Tigerchick! Second most important tip is to use great imagery – a website is nothing without really WOW images.
