Why should I pay for SEO when I could do it myself?
1 June 2009
Why should I pay for Professional Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) when surely I could do it myself? We answer a few common questions and help save you time.
First of all it is probably best to describe what search engine optimisation is, as most people are still unaware of this art form and believe that once they get a new website built, thousands if not millions of visitors will simply drop by straight away. Wouldn’t that be nice!
Search engine optimisation is the art of looking at a website and making changes and improvements to it on a continual basis in order to move up the search engine index's for various keywords or search terms. Hopefully with the end result of a page one ranking on Google.
Sounds simple doesn’t it? Gone are the days when all you had to do was load your website with your chosen keywords, put in some keyword rich meta tags and hey presto you were there. SEO today is a lot more complex indeed.
Search engine algorithms are continually evolving, and are becoming more human like. In order to advance within the search engine indexes these days, not only does your site structure have to be spot on but you also have to ensure your content is useful, relevant and updated regularly in order to provide the best possible information to the end user. Content is still king and always will be.
In addition to site structure and content you will also need to build lots and lots of quality inbound links from other websites. Taking part in social networking to create awareness and help with links is also now a key aspect, and becoming more important with each new day. Don’t forget to keep your blog up to date too! Blog I hear you say? Well that’s another article all on its own.
The speed of growth on the internet is so fast that it’s tough to keep up with the latest valuable trends and tools, but the success of your search engine campaign will depend heavily on all of this.
All this and much, much more are the actions required in order to climb up the search engine rankings. If that wasn’t enough Google keeps moving the goal posts. What’s good today is not always good tomorrow so how do you keep up with these changes? News articles, Blog Posts, RSS Feeds, and not forgetting Google’s own vast array of never-ending tools. They all have a part to play.
To summarise, if you want to take on your own SEO campaign then by all means do so. We wish you all the luck in the world. If you want to succeed and climb the rankings, and stay there, you’ll be better served by employing a professional SEO expert. It is their role to know the search engines inside out and to keep up with all of the latest trends. Choose wisely and let the professional do what they do best, which is to help your website succeed in the shortest possible time.
