Offshore or local development

Especially when dealing with the internet, the marketplace is gobal...

You only need to check your email inbox or spam bin daily to see how many emails are received from India, China and other parts of the world touting for businesses. It reminds us that the digital industry is the most international and accessable.

Consider the following

Cost - this can be a major factor however you need to remember that depending on your project that bargain price can rise if you do not get the details set out at the start. Going straight to a developer will probably lead to an arrangement where the developer does as requested however if you forget to mention a feature at the start or your brief is too open then you may find alot of extra cost being added to the original bill. Make sure you go with a company that offer project management as this will lead to less pain.

Intelectual property - if you go with a UK company and they sign an NDA then you are protected. If you go straight offshore there is not protection of your idea.

Experience - check out the companies previous work and ask for references. Like any other sector you need to do your homework.

Remeber the following, the cheapest price is not always the cheapest in the long run. You need to make sure you go with a company that will deliver on time and without hassle, the less time you spend worrying and tearing your hair out the more chance you have of winning on the web.
