Q: What's your name and position in the company?
A: Wil Brown, Owner.
Q: Describe your company in 5 words.
A: Creating simple effective business websites
Q: What's your business philosophy?
A: We know what it's like to run a small business so we approach our clients with that in mind and and offer all of our web expertise and business knowledge to build up a strong relationship that can benefit us both.
Q: Describe your office environment.
A: Creatively messy with Lady GaGa currently playing on Spotify.
Q: Describe how your team interact and work together.
A: This depends on the type of projects and their scale.
For larger projects we use online collaboration solutions to keep everyone updated.
We also make use of Skype for video conferencing and Google Talk for chatting.
Of course nothing can beat face to face sharing, especially at the end of the week over a nice cold beer.
Q: What makes you different from other web design companies?
A: We offer a new approach to web design. As well as delivering a fresh new look for your online site we focus on making your website generate business leads and increase goal conversions.
Your website’s goal could be for visitors to submit an enquiry form, sign up to a newsletter, buy products or simply to pick up the phone and give you a call.
Q: How do you get the majority of your business?
A: Through word-of-mouth from existing clients and collegues.
For us a referral is the best kind of lead. It basically says to a potential client "Hey, we've worked with these guys before and they're really good."
The rest come almost exclusively from on-line sources such as serach engines and web directories like WWDC.
Q: Describe how you manage projects from the initial client contact to completion and handover.
A: We like to make personal contact with a client as soon as possible either by phone or preferably face-to-face.
After a good chat with the client we get to understand them, their business and the goals they would like to achieve online.
The projects are very collaborative and we get the client to interact with designs and prototypes as much as possible. Feeback is incorporated into the next design update and the process repeats until everybody is happy.
We're happy to either handover the full final project designs to the client or do the live update ourselves.
Either way, we always offer training and follow-up support.
Q: What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
A: Good frequent communication at every stage.
Relationships can break down pretty quickly if either party is left wondering what is happening.
Emails and on-line collaboration are good but we find actually talking to customers face-to-face or over the phone can help keep relations on top form.
Q: How do you manage demanding clients?
A: We're just plain honest and realistic.
If something can't be done we tell it like it is and of course try to offer an alternative approach or solution.
Dealing face-to-face or by phone is the best way of sorting out demanding issues.
Q: If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
A: Having a good long chat to a real person at the start is key.
Try to ask the person the same or similar questions about how they would approach and work on the project. This way you can compare the responses.
At the end of the day all web design companies should have the skills to complete your project but you'll get a gut feeling for which one you would like to work with.
Go with that one.
Q: Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
A: We like the way we work just now and we're having fun.
As long as we're still enjoying what we do in 10 years, everything will be fine.
Q: Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
A: Websites and devices are going to be smarter and will collaborate more in the future.
Our industry will have to match and grow with that.
Q: What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
A: PC
Q: How was your company name chosen?
A: Gravity is the strongest force in the universe.
It binds together atoms and galaxies and effects everything in and around us.
We like that.
Q: If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?
A: Your website should have at least one goal.
This may be to get customers to call, email, submit a form or buy a product.
Concentrate on increasing the number of website visitors completing that goal (your conversion rate) and expand from there.
