The thing we really love about Smith and Wise is how they work with clients. We were formerly clients of another company which is now owned by Smith and Wise, they honoured all contracts, and particularly important for a not for profit body such as HASOI (The Historical Aviation Society Of Ireland), they didn't increase fees or end sponsorship of hosting.
We really love the service Smith and Wise has offered us, we would recommend them to any company and we are looking forward to the redesign of our website in the pipeline.
A really professional company!
Kind Regards
Pat Smith

WWDC:
What's your name and position in the company?
Smith and Wise:
”Managing Director (and jack of all trades a lot of the time!)”
WWDC:
Describe your company in 5 words.
Smith and Wise:
”Professional, Modern, Dynamic, Established, Innovative”
WWDC:
What's your business philosophy?
Smith and Wise:
”We have always felt that quality must meet budget. We never overcharge, we never undercharge - we constantly deliver quality at a price which works for clients, suppliers and our bank manager!”
WWDC:
Describe your office environment.
Smith and Wise:
”Chaotic at times, but always a friendly place to be at meetings. Most of our team work from home / contract from other companies. That means we really are a nationwide company!”
WWDC:
Describe how your team interact and work together.
Smith and Wise:
”In person, through technology, with respect - our core philosophy for all our contractors, freelancers, partners, suppliers and employees.”
WWDC:
What makes you different from other web design companies?
Smith and Wise:
”Professionalism. We have yet to hang up the phone on a client over petty issues, we retain W3C international standards and our suppliers aren't bargain basement suppliers, they are industry leaders, whether legal, hosting, developers, marketing, print or consultancy, they are all true professionals, and we all work well together - our clients don't end up having to chase down each elemental manager of their online profile”
WWDC:
How do you get the majority of your business?
Smith and Wise:
”Referrals - plain and simple, we get a lot of inquiries online, but the proof is in the pudding, happy clients mean more clients in the long run.”
WWDC:
Describe how you manage projects from the initial client contact to completion and handover.
Smith and Wise:
”Consultation > Develop Plan / Timescale / Budget > Deposit > Complete Initial Stages > Second Payment > Make changes > Final Payment > Launch”
WWDC:
What do you think is the most crucial element of creating a good client relationship?
Smith and Wise:
”Trust and interest. We follow the old business philosophy of using a clients projects and never taking on a client whom you have little interest in. This reflects well as clients and Smith and Wise parties often mutually earn each others respect. When you respect someones skills, interests and beliefs, it is difficult to allow such relationships dissolve. Many of our long term clients are also now friends.”
WWDC:
How do you manage demanding clients?
Smith and Wise:
”Everything is set to a time scale and budget. As variations occur, such as additional changes, requirements for projects to be sped up, etc. can normally be accommodated at additional cost. We have one policy with demanding clients, don't charge extra until you are working overtime - in order words, unlike many companies, we don't discriminate for perfectionism.”
WWDC:
If a client was trying to decide between a shortlist of web design companies, how would you recommend they go about selecting the right one for them?
Smith and Wise:
”I once heard a story of a advertising executive who chose not to design on spec for a meeting, but rather talk about his business. It is easy to materialise an ideal on paper. If a company director can sit down, offer hands on experience, mention a few failures and recommend a strategy on the spot - pick them, they are true professionals. In a creative industry professionalism is never preparedness; it's all about quick thinking - We quick think a lot, and win contracts often.”
WWDC:
Where do you see your company in 10 years time?
Smith and Wise:
”Hopefully providing solutions which save government agencies and multinationals money, while providing innovative solutions making life easier for our current clients.”
WWDC:
Where do you see the web design industry in the future?
Smith and Wise:
”Hopefully there being more complete service firms like ourselves. Individualism is limited in it's capacity to helping companies, and certainly creates headaches for marketing managers.”
WWDC:
What computers do you have use in your offices, PCs or Macs?
Smith and Wise:
”Both PC and Mac”
WWDC:
How was your company name chosen?
Smith and Wise:
”Smith and Wise is a nice quirky professional name which represents the previous companies we encompass”
