This is a tricky one, mainly because it depends on your definition of affordable and also whether you actually get value for money.

I would always try to use a local company, which may cost a little more, but they can be held more accountable and it's harder for them to rip you off if you know where they are. Also I find many of the outsourced companies missing the boat quite a few times and campaigns I've done in the past.

There are literally millions of companies out there offering SEO Services.

Most of them however, don't do anything.

Some companies offer a number 1 spot for any given search. But this simply cannot work. This reason is that say if you had a business, say in landscaping. You approached the company and asked if you can come up number one in the search phrase 'landscape gardeners'. Of course, they will say yes. However, one of your colleagues, who also runs a business in landscaping, and they approach a company asking to be number 1 in the same phrase. Both will say yes, but, logic says, both cannot be number 1!

Some will also say that they'll submit your site manually to all the search engines. This, most of the time, also isn't true, as there are literally thousands of them, so most likely, they'll have a system which automatically submits your site, which doesn't help achieve a top listing.

What you need, is not necessarily the cheapest, but the company that is giving you the most value. For example, how much time they'll spend on your site.

What is the best and most affordable SEO company? No such thing as THE best and MOST affordable.

Let me explain. Different SEO companies specialise (or are good at) different things. Some are great at optimising your site for Local SEO, some are great for International SEO, some are great at on-page SEO, and some are great at building authority and trust.

Believe it or not you can save yourself a lot of money by taking the time to submit your website to major search engines yourself for FREE before spending money on expensive SEO that you can do yourself! As long as your web designer/developer has coded your website's meta tags properly, your site will be picked up in search engines and directories.

Once your site has been submitted to the top search engines it takes a little time for it to propagate through the internet and allow the search engines to spider and list your web site in their directories. How fast your site gets listed depends on each individual search engine's update schedule. Eventually, every site does get visited and indexed by search engine 'robots', but submitting it to Google is essential. Google is the most popular search engine.

SEO is something anyone can do if they have the time to dedicate to it. There is enough information out there but on the other hand, much of it is guess-work or miscommunication.

But then, that's what you pay a professional SEO specialist for. To keep up to date with the ever changing methodologies. To dedicate the APPROPRIATE amount of time without wasting time or of course money.

As with any supplier of anything, it all comes down to maximum return for the investment you make. You'll find it hard to get any guarantees as such but they should at least be able to show their previous successes.

On page SEO starts during the planning, design concept and development stages. In other words you should be thinking about SEO from the start of the project. It's shouldn't an after-thought.
