Website with FTP (I think) Capability
Hi All,
I intend to create a website which will enable me to send and recieve files to/from my clients. My business will basically involve receiving files via the site and then sending them back to the client as a finished product (hopefully using the same site function). Each client would have to have their own login details, must not be able to view files uploaded or ready to be downloaded by another client, and the transfer system must be 100% secure.
As I'm not a developer, I'd like to know whether this is plausible, how it could work, and if so, I'd like to hear from companies based in London/Surrey able to do the job!
Many thanks in advance for your assistance!
Mark.

'Ello Mark! - Firstly its not something I deal with, but yes it is more than possible. I work alongside print companies who have the same type of systems for designers like me to upload client work to be printed, you could contact one of those & ask for advice?
I use RCS Printing, (http://www.rcs.plc.uk/) & find them awffy helpful & friendly, drop 'em an email?
Good luck, scotia :)

Hi Mark,
FTP is a way of doing this or you could use a form handler that allows file uploads. Google a company called jotform, I use them and it's a free service (up to 100 form submissions)
Another way is by using encrypted email too.
hope that helps

Dear Mark
The method to be used would depend on the file size that you anticipate using.
Anything up to 20Mb files then we can offer you a secure system that your customers would be able to use quite easily by creating an account on your website and then having the ability to upload their files to that account. You would then be able to access those files, do whatever you do and put them back so that the customer could then download them through the same system.
This is quite straightforward to operate and would not require any specialist knowledge on your part.
Anything over 20Mb and the method used would need to be different. Perfectly possible to imagine a system where the files could be anything up to 2Gb but it would would be a tad more complex than Option 1.
I hope that helps - do drop me a line at mike@yeswedowebsites.co.uk if you'd like us to explore this a little further with you. Tel: 0800 840 4051

Hi Mark,
Alternatively to the above, you could use the blogging system Wordpress. Create yourself a blog, and login to the back end of the system. Once you've logged in, you can download a plug-in called "Omni Secure".
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/omni-secure-files/
This will allow you to upload your files, create logins for your clients to login to the back end and also provide a secure, unobtrusive and uncomplicated method of sharing the documents with them. This saves you massive amounts of time (and money) playing around with FTP, which most clients, I imagine, will find complex.
If you need any further help, drop me an email on james.scott@creare.co.uk
Thanks,
James.

Hello,
An option for you to use would be to have a form with an upload and email function. You would have the email sent directly to you as a notification of an upload and the file would be uploaded to your server. You can then have your FTP program linked to that folder so you can start that up and receive the file at a time that suits you. This would save your email being bombarded with large file downloads and bad times.
You would then have a contact history page that your clients would see, but they would not have access to any files. This would be incorporated to their profile page.
This is maybe a nice method as you can incorporate it easily to any type of website without being bound to a specific CMS. You can also set the file upload limit yourself with a php.ini thats held within the root folder of your website.
regards, Jordan.

We have a similar system running on a number of websites. www.clilfusion.com hosts the files externally while www.worldbiosolutions.com hosts locally and has secure downloads for registered users.
www.actadsl.com also allows the same, secure and open areas, while also allowing administrators to upload files.
we also use this to check out documents, edit and upload. With some files only being available to a particular user account.
We're not based in Surrey (maybe the name gives that way) but we have clients in the UK and you're more then welcome to contact them to find out what level of service they receive.

Hi
We can create you a simple page where you can enter the email address of the recipient and the file to be sent, this then uploads to your server/host and sends the customer a unique link to download the file.
They can then do the same to send you any files.
Hope this helps
