Hi
I am unaware of 2hoursites.com but it is always advisable to ensure you have complete control over your website domain, in terms of "backend" access.

Web designers should provide all clients with this information, thus preventing them from terminating client websites without their prior knowledge.

If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Hi Julia

It appears that the nameservers that tell the world where candydelicious.co.uk is are not responding - this isn't the sign of a decent web host/provider. Maybe it will come back to life, but all is not lost...

You mentioned you registered url yourself. This is confirmed by looking at http://webwhois.nic.uk/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=candydelicious.co.uk so at least you are in a position to move to another provider without having a bit of a fight to get your domain name. In fact it shows that you registered the name directly with Nominet. This is a little odd, as Nominet don't make it easy to register with them, and if you do it costs £80+VAT. The very same .co.uk bought at one of hundreds of providers would cost lest than £10.

Your site - whilst it is not live, I did manage to see bits of it in Google using the following in their search box...

site:www.candydelicious.co.uk

You could if you needed to, use Google cached versions of some of these pages to copy and paste the content, however, you most likely provided it in the first place so I'm not sure you would gain much there.

Going forward - find a new web company to work with and don't choose someone just on price. I would suggest you find someone local to you ideally through recommendation. They should be able to get your domain/email back up and running within a day or so and then you can work with them to build your website.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Hi Julia,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Most web design companies, especially those on WWDC, are reputable and trustworthy.

Google has a cached copy of the site here:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Ua4vQuEzlVEJ:www.candydelicious.co.uk/+http://www.candydelicious.co.uk/&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

This should help you copy/paste your content for each page into Word or Notepad to back it up.

Unfortunately, there is no styling on the cached copy but if you mouse-over the arrows to the right of your Google listing, you can see the design of the site - if you press print screen on your keyboard while this is in view, you can get at least a low-res copy of what the site looked like to give to a designer.

Combine the copy and the artwork, give it to a web design company, and they should be able to get you back up and running in no time.

I have looked up the domain at Nominet and it's registered in your name, so you should be able to recover any access to it via a Nominet dispute, if it comes to that as a worst-case scenario.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Hi Julia - there are some really great answers here explaining just how to save your site's content, but I think you really need to be careful when you approach a new web designer.

Some people will offer you a new deal that's too good to be true, then delete your site if you complain that you're being ripped off, or if you refuse to pay a ludicrous "upkeep" charge.

Companies here on WWDC don't do that, and it'll be worth paying a little more up front for that peace of mind in the future.

Best of luck with getting your site back together!

Dear Julia,

This can happen, it's important to know how to find and look up your websites information. Most cases, you can do a search on google for whois lookup, or even dig lookup. These two names are associated with commands that are used with most servers. I did a quick whois on your domain and found some information. This should help.

If your name is Julia Parr, then you own the domain. I believe it would seem the host may have turned it off. The nameservers for the host are,
Name servers:
ns1.monstersites.co.uk
ns2.monstersites.co.uk
If you need to get control of your domain it would seem you would want to contact
Registrar:
No registrar listed. This domain is registered directly with Nominet.

All this information I found was using whois with your domain name. If you have more questions, I would be more than willing to help you.

Hi Julia,

As previously said there should be no problem with transferring the domain to a new provider and also getting a new host and web designer to take on your requirements.

Comp Tek offer a rescue solution for clients like yourself where the communication with there current provider has broken down. We can get you up and running and use our own hosting solutions with a 99.9% uptime. We also offer full ownership to our clients of the website so you are free to move elsewhere if you ever decided to.

If there is anything I can help with or if you would like a free no obligation quotation then please let me know.

Many thanks

We've heard a number of reports about 2hoursites and apparently they're under investigation by trading standards.

Contact trading standards and make them aware of the situation for starters, aside from that there already seems to be some good advice above.

All the best with it
