With the recent announcement that both Google and Bing are going to be doing live searches of Twitter and Facebook content, I think they both have their advantages in an online marketing strategy.
Twitter is really good for a short term quick fire method, but not so good for the interaction as it is quite limited in it's possibilities. I personally like twitters potential to get a company started with online stuff before hitting the other social media sites or using a blog.
Facebook needs more detail and may take a while to really get the most out of it, but it will allow for far more communicative discussions about either your business or service or products with your potential or actual customers.
So I think the question is more 'what would suit your marketing strategy online?' Why not both Twitter to get some things going now and while that's happening, build up your facebook.
I would say though that if it is for business to business you would be far better off with www.linkedin.com instead of facebook as that is much more targeted as a social site for businesses. Facebook is better for business to consumer angles.
I hope that helps.

FaceBook is the best social network in the world with over 1.4 million surfers daily, this website is the obvious choice to network with friends, co-workers, entrepreneurs, and potential clients. They have private email for personal messages, tools to help make your networking effective, and tons of ways to advertise. FaceBook is a proven leader in networking on the internet.

Both Facebook and Twitter are good, but in different ways.
Facebook is good for networking with friends and family and keeping upto date with events. Whereas Twitter I find can be used for either quick messaging between friends or people on similar interests, or for keeping upto date with the latest news on a specific subject of interest, wether it be latest local or worldwide news or websites and web development through the sharing of links.

Facebook and Twitter are two very different entities, though at first impression it may seem that they are very similar.
Starting with Facebook, you have the most popular and highly frequented website in the world. A few years ago, if we had been told that a website would emerge which hundreds of millions of people all over the world visited on a more than daily basis, we probably wouldn't have believed you, however this is truly the case.
Facebook is simply a phenomenon, and still growing.
Twitter is a relatively new social website that has jumped on the scene in the last couple of years, and is currently the fastest growing site in the world. Ideal for fast breaking news and to gain knowledge of public feeling, the beauty of its short text message style is in its simplicity. A great way to keep in touch with celebrites and popular figures, Twitter has a mass of positives.
However, it has a slight problem at the moment in that it can easily be abused with monetary gains being the target, and there are websites out there which can literally sell you 1000's of followers at at time for marketing purposes. As long as this is kept under control, the potential here is enormous.
So for us, they both have a place in our most commonly frequented sites, but Facebook takes our award.

I find Twitter to be like a contemporary RSS; It seems to be a fast and trendy facility to broadcast your latest news to a subscribed audience.
As already mentioned, Facebook us ultimately more powerful in terms of interaction and the depth of information you can present.
Not forgetting to look at others like youtube, myspace etc. too.

Twitter seems to be getting more positive publicity as of lately while Facebook's Privacy problems have continuously dragged the network down.
Despite this, I believe that from a business standpoint, a Facebook page could be more effective to attract NEW attention to your business. Facebook offers a reasonably priced ad campaign that is customizable to directly the target group.
Twitter, as mentioned, is more of a modern RSS style site that can be handy in keeping in touch with current clients through regular "Tweets".
Thusly, it depends on what your business goals are to decide between either one of these massively popular networking mediums.

Hi Matt,
They are both good methods of social networking and I would recommend them both, but the only problem is that you need to make sure that you have the time to keep both of them up-to-date.
Thanks

If its for Social Media Marketing, commercial marketing as such the it depends who your target audience is and what they prefer. Have you looked into customer profiling at all? You have to understand the buying trends of your ideal client before you can market yourself successfully in their domain.

Twitter is better for business website because it is quick and easy to use and update information.
Where as face book is better for profiles and information on given people in the business rather than the business it self this is because it provides a range of other materials that twitter does not use.
I set up a account my self for both twitter and face book and I found that I used twitter more for the business side of the site and face book more for personal information.
I recommend twitter.

We at Wee Epics use both... but there is definitely a difference between the two.
It seems to be harder for a web design co to get 'fans' or 'likes' as it is now on Facebook whereas on Twitter you gain far more 'followers' far quicker - whether this has a direct effect on revenue I'm not sure but it's certainly more assuring to know that your messages are going out to far more!
If it's any use we had a sale via twitter within a few weeks of launching the business... not a big sale but a sale none the less!
