Hi Sanj,

What the designer is looking for is a design direction you would like the logo to look like, this is great for you liking the logo (you can just list other logos you like or images that represent what the company does using stock image sites or google images), but what about your customers, what will they respond to?

We usually send a document that asks about your target audience, here are some of the questions we tend to ask:
- What do you need to be able to convey to the customer?
- What is the goal of what you are selling?
- What is the emotional tone and manner of the company?
- Who is your competition?
- What 10 Adjectives best describe your company?
- Where is the branding going to appear?

It is then the designers job to come up with a visual design that will appeal to the market since they are the ones who you want to respond to it.

I hope that helps.

Depends on the target audience, if it is a corporate or serious website you should keep the design to a minimum, i find the more upbeat the websites are the more attractive and fun the logos are!

Hi Sanj,

A place that might be interesting to have a look at is http://logopond.com/gallery/ a community website where logo designers upload their work to get critique by fellow designers.

A great source of inspiration

Hi Sanj,

Personally, I wouldn't say there is one definitive answer for this, but below are a couple of websites which may help. Typically, inspiration for logo's should come from all types of media and all examples of life. Eg. walking down the high street, watching television, reading magazines, as well as browsing websites.

Great logo design stems from simplicity, and the largest companies out there typically have strong logo's which people are extremely familiar with.

Try these sites for some ideas:

http://www.designdrops.com/website-templates/10-great-logo-design-portfolios/

http://www.logodesignlove.com/best-logo-design-resources

Try having a search in Google using kewords such as the following - "great logo designs", "classic logos", "inspirational logos" etc. You should find a few good resources.

Cheers,

Chris.

Interesting comment as a good designer would normally make recommendations. But if you want to research for ideas just search for Logo Templates on the web. There are many companies that have 100's you could use as a basis for your ideas.

You industry and your competition firstly. Logo design is much more than just using any old font style and throwing in a symbol of some kind. Although it's not branding itself, just one element, it does take time to investigate and look at the message you want to communicate using a logo.

My question would be why is your designer asking you to do any work at all? They should know the right questions to ask you to get enough to be able to go away and come up with something that is inspirational and practical.
