Interactive map designe
I need a map of the south of England and Wales which will show a number of our offices (40), it will need to be divided into counties which will highlight when hovered over with the mouse and also will need markers where the offices are situated which will link to the branch's specific page. Is this something that can be done by most designers or will i need to look for a specialist designer? If so where do i look?

Hello Victoria,
You will need a specialist designer for this job. It is quite a difficult job as it needs to use Flash ideally.
Reddex Design might be able to offer you some services. We can possibly design you an interactive map for

Hi Victoria,
We actually specialise in this area as we have done many maps for other companies in the past. Please copy and paste the links below into a browser to see some of the maps we have created.
We created 6 individual maps like the one below for Forest Holidays that tie into a CMS system so the client can update the status of the cabins or the descriptions.

Another map for Forest Holidays which show the locations, again this is updatable by the client (bottom right called Our Locations).

The aggreko map (bottom right hand side column) again can be updated by the client using a CMS, they can specifically choose where the dot will show and what information accompanies that office location.

For Gleneagles we created a map to show what is available at the facilities and tied it into various pages on the website. This map isn't updatable by the client.

Hi Victoria
You can do this one of 3 main ways:
1. Flash
This is the most obvious choice but won't display on iPhones / iPads / iPod Touch and can't be read by search engines.
2. Images and CSS
This is a good way to do this, but is perhaps the most time consuming.
3. Use a Google Map
This would be my recommended choice, not only do you have things like the map and markers built in, but also information windows and all the extensions that Google Maps brings. So, for example, people could click on one of your offices and get directions in a couple of clicks, all through Google Maps without any coding.
You would also have all the different display options already there for how people wanted to view the map, or whether they wanted to zoom in / zoom out etc
I hope this helps

Hi Victoria, this is something we've done for a couple of clients. It doesn't need to be done in Flash (and it's better not).
I wrote about how it can be done in Drupal here : http://figure-w.co.uk/creating-clickable-maps-with-drupal/ but the same techniques can be applied even if you are not using Drupal.
If you are still looking for a solution I'd be delighted to tell you more.
