HTML 5 is a good idea because it is forward thinking and will work brilliantly with the latest browsers.

You need to make sure that there is a way for older browsers to understand it. This isn't a problem, as it is easily achieved by adding some javascripts to your site.

I'm great believer in HTML5 and CSS3, have been using both for over twelve months.

Best thing about HTML5 is the 'Doctype' declaration, no more 'Strict' or 'Transitional' or the other six you could use?

One line in the head calls a small bit of javascript and a few in the CSS makes all browsers work.

Any site I touch now upgrades to HTML5 and CSS3.

Hi!, yarnie Zoutewelle

You can choose HTML5 n CSS3 for your website.

Its vry useful in.

Change your doctype
Simplify your character set
Simplify your and elements
Use block level linking
Get into the habit of using HTML5 class names in your HTML4 markup
Use the new form input types, as they degrade gracefully
Use elements such as to add semantics that will be interpreted by leading browsers
Use the and elements, and then make them degrade gracefully (see our article on audio or Video for Everybody)

Most of the website we are now designing use HTML 5 & CSS 3. There's a few minor issues with backward compatability but we work around these as the benefits far outway the problems.

We're now coming out with better looking designs than a few years ago simply because of this.

HTML 5 is the most modern version of the markup language, and you shouldn't have any trouble finding a design firm that can provide HTML 5 code.

If you're not sure whether a development company can offer it, just ask. Here's a link to an article I wrote recently containing some pertinent interview questions to ask potential developers.

http://www.whichwebdesigncompany.com/ca/articles/questions-to-ask-before-hiring-a-website-developer

This will help you get a good feel for whether the person you choose is competent and will give you what you're looking for. It should be a given that they're interested in keeping up with the latest HTML specs, but it never hurts to ask. If they have no idea what you're talking about, you may want to find someone else.

HTML 5 is great, however you need to make sure it's backwards compatible with older browsers as people take time to upgrade

If you would like to email over the details we'd be interested in hearing from you

Thanks

Hi there Yarnie,

HTML 5 allows for all sorts of fun functionality. We use it on sites we develop but we also make sure the overall code degrades gracefully in older browsers. It all comes down to who your audience is. Make sure your target audience uses browsers that render HTML 5 or it will go to waste.

Hope that helps.
