Hello,

Indeed, I can offer you design for £8.50 per hour. That's roughly the cost of most other UK designers, if not cheaper.

Please email me at info@reddexdesign.com if you wish for me to continue with the design of your site.

We also offer hosting.

Thanks,

James

The hourly cost of a web designer can vary.

You are likely to pay less for a web designer working at home. However if you choose a web development company you have to remember that their overheads are going to be more so they're costs are going to be higher.

I'm not sure where you would find a reputable and professional web design service for less than £8.50 per hour. Even £8.50 seems pretty cheap to me.

Our hourly rate is £20 per hour, but we try to offer up front quotes if we can, this way there'll be no surprises when it comes to having to pay.

I agree. This appears very cheap. Who heard of a professional Web Designer on these type of rates. I think it would be better to quote on each piece of work at a time. Please contact us for a Free mockup website quotation

Hi John
Agree with the Guys above £8.50 is cheap..and in the end you could end up with a site that looks like a £8.50 job.

Most companies will charge at least double that. We at Citrushead Media charge from £20 upwards and make sure all work is scoped out and a fixed price given up front.

We can also help in other areas like Hosting. That’s an extra cost but we like to include that making sure you get a better deal for your money and the whole package really. Hosting starts at £4 a month.

Please feel free to drop us an email even for just a chat..

Cheers

Hi

£8.50ph is cheap I charge around £12-£15ph depending on different factors.

Not trying to put anyone else down but anything under around £10ph in the UK may signify a recent grad, or part-timer. Doesn't mean they can't do the job but as with everything you may get what you may for.

Please get in contact if you would like a bespoke quote this would probably work out cheaper.

Best Regards

Ashley

Myself and Joe work from home as freelances, we say our hourly rate is £30,

but if you take off the tax and bills it ends up less,

also £30 an hour never works out that way, it probably ends up more like £10

depending on the project.

Hi John,

Like the others here I agree £8.50 is very cheap, but it could be that they have undervalued themselves as they are not confident enough yet to charge more, it doesn't mean they aren't good. I know when I started out it probably worked out a lot less than that for a while.

£12/hr might get you a student or a new company just starting out, but as others point out you get what you pay for, which means the project may take longer than quoted, won't quite be up to the standard it should be and might not consider all the things in the design or business processes that an experienced company can bring to the table to help your company succeed, that includes more cost effective ways to do more complicated and therefore usually expensive stuff.

Don't get me wrong there are some very talented people just starting out these days compared to a few years ago, so you do have a better chance of finding a few diamonds in the rough.

We ourselves have different rates for different jobs as each job has a particular skillset required and budget to fit and out in the real world different skillsets get different wages.

We provide fixed costs if requested and have a guarantee of quality, we also have over 7 year’s experience in the field of web design and flash develpoment working with some very large and some incredibly small companies.

With regards to your problem with the team in India, it's actually quite common that what you wanted isn't quite what you get, if you need to resolve the issue with them due to current budget concerns, please feel free to get in touch and tell me a little more as I may be able to help you resolve it quickly, so your current website project doesn't suffer and then you might be able to just get a company over here to maintain it from that point on.

Hope that helps.

We tend to charge £25 per hour, but always give our customers a rough guide to the expected cost first.

If they're after very small changes we tend to charge less than this, or even just do it for free. It really depends the task, but i'd say around £15 - £30 per hour is a fair price to pay.

We also charge between £20 and £25 depending on the work required. £8.50 seems crazy to me, but I do wonder if someone offers that rate and then over charges the number of hours they actaully work. I would find £8.50 financially impossible due to overheads.

As a designer and design company we tend not to charge by the hour.

Having a set cost for projects is a much simpler way of knowing up front how much a project will cost and setting up a payment schedule.

Where a project is complex we take in to account the extra in put you may need and give you an estimate based upon your requirements but if it were for example updating a large product base we would recommend training or a monthly payment plan.

Many of our clients previously paid paid by the hour with another company and they were extremely ripped off. - but I am not saying all designers are like this.

If you would like a quote for your overall project please feel free to contact us for a no obligation chat about what services we can provide.

£8.50 per hour to me seems extremely low.

In general for an experienced, professional web developer/designer I would expect to pay anywhere in the region of £25 - £45 per hour. As in any industry you get what you pay for, and I would worry that low prices mean low quality, rushed work. Personally I think that undercharging for work is as bad as overcharging, and devalues the industry, with people expecting great sites for peanuts.

I charge £30 per hour for small design jobs/amendments. For larger jobs and full sites I will always quote a fixed cost up front. This way the client is always aware of the full budget cost before the job starts.

I agree that charging an on-going hourly rate for large jobs could be dangerous for the client, and a good designer with a detailed brief should be able to estimate accurately the time needed for a project in advance.

Hi John

There is always someone who can offer you a cheaper hourly rate -- but how many hours are they going to bill you for... and will the result be any good. Hourly rates can be a bit of a lottery.

If you are looking to build a web site may I suggest that you seek out a couple of fixed price quotes to compare. When we quote for a job we stick to it -- because I believe we should be good enough at what we do to get the quote right. Typically our web sites (including CMS, support, SEO elements, training etc etc) are between £700 and £7000. Does that span your budget?

Do contact me if I can be of any more help.

Hi John,
Hourly rate is not necessarily a good measure of value. We are priced mid to high end on our hourly rate @ £50/hour but on fixed priced jobs which we always work to, we are still highly competitive because our team are skilled and work efficiently.

Hi John,

First of all its wrong to assume that if they are charging £8.50 per hour they are just some graduate starting out and would do a substandard job. Some of the best websites I have ever seen are done by students after all a lot of them have a lot of time on their hands.

Rather than look for an hourly rate I would suggest that you get a price per project. Even though some companies will give a cheap hourly rate, you could find the hours they bill for are excessively high.

What you need to do is decide on a budget that you are comfortable with spending on your site, then you can test the waters with a few designers to see what they will do for your money.
You may find that you will get more than you expected but don't let them push your budget up if you are not comfortable with it.

If I can give you any other information then please do not hesitate in getting in contact.

Regards

John
